"Let me live, love, and say it well in good sentences."
--Sylvia Plath, The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath
For this post. I read A Fable for the Living by Kevin Brockmeier. One of the themes of is the importance of communication and expressing your ups and downs, especially through writing. The story talks about writing to loved ones who have passed away not only as a way to communicate with other people but also as a way to check in with ourselves. This reminds me of my letter to my author-self. In this letter, I am trying to confront my feelings and why I feel stuck and to motivate myself. Yo Kidd,
It's been a minute hasn't?.. Why do you continue to repress me? You shouldn't hold me back.. Let me out again PLeASe! There is so much to say... I understand there are days where you do not feel like doing anything because you are tired and you feel like you are stuck in a stuck in a routine. All you do is work, eat and sleep and it repeats day after day. Tired of looking at you like this. It's wearing on me.. look at you... back then you had so much to say before. It felt great, didn't it? Writing whatever you want.. You haven't written since.. When was it? Sixth grade? Are you really going to let a teacher end your career like that? You're like a pilot whose plane is being controlled by autopilot. Sometimes I feel like you do not realize the task is already completed... This is autopilot of yours is toxic. You get forgetful of who you are sometimes.. LET ME OUT! The problem is that you keep making excuses for yourself... I have to earn money, feed myself, and go to sleep, etc. "If I do not do anything, then nothing would get done and it would be a huge waste of time". You keep telling yourself that.. tired of it bro. And things like "No progress would be made on anything. I would be stuck even more and time will not wait for anyone". All these sayings are not helping you. You are being clouded... FREE ME... I can help you find motivation. If you keep making excuses for yourself you will never get anywhere. If you let me out I can improve your skills.. Let me help you learn and gain new knowledge. That is why you're going to back to school isn't it? Later in life, it could open new opportunities. TRUST ME.. Knowing all this gives me hope and fulfillment if you let me out... I can accomplish a lot if you let me out.. Hopefully, you can hear me... Let me be an inspiration and pass on my values and knowledge. RELEASE ME.. I know I CAN HELP YOU SUCCEED. I am going to offer these three steps to connect myself with you. First, you should definitely start a journal and write in it every day and check in with me every month at least.. Second, you should practice mindfulness by being present in the moment and being aware of your feelings throughout the day. Finally, you need to encourage yourself and keep yourself from feeling stuck in a routine or on autopilot, start saying something positive to yourself every day and remind yourself what you are doing. Hopefully, these steps will let you interact more with me and keep me and keep you motivated. Best of Luck, Kent Chow
